1. Avoid using acetone nail polish removers, as these can
strip your nails of essential moisture. Choose the conditioning
variety.
2. Apply hand cream regularly. The oils in the cream will
seal moisture into your nails.
3. The most common cause of soft nails is exposure to water,
so wear rubber gloves when doing the dishes or cleaning the
bathroom.
4. Never file your nails immediately after a bath, as this is
when they're at their weakest and likely to split.
5. Dry wet nails in an instant by plunging them into ice cold
water.
6. To repair a split nail, tear a little paper from a teabag
of coffee filter paper and glue it over the tear with nail glue.
Once it's dry, buff until smooth, and then apply your polish.
7. If you're planning to do some gardening or messy work,
drag your nails over a bar of soap, so that dirt won't be able to
get in.
8. Clean ink and stains from your fingertips, by using a
toothbrush and toothpaste on the affected areas.
9. If you have very weak nails, try painting your base coat
under the tip of your nails to give them extra strength.
10. Use a cotton bud with a pointed end to clean under your
nails - it's gentler than scrubbing with a nail brush.
