Ingredients (serves 8)
2 ½ cups water
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
10 peppercorns (or according to taste)
1 onion, chopped
3/4 cup lentils
1 teaspoon salt
6 cups water
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon salt
Boil 2 ½ cups water in a 3-quart saucepan. Add turmeric, chopped
garlic cloves, peppercorns, chopped onion, lentils, and salt. Return
to a boil, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer until the
lentils are cooked and most of the liquid absorbed, about 20
minutes.
Put lentils in a blender using a little water if necessary). Return
lentils to the saucepan. Add 6 cups water and bring to a boil.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Add
lemon juice and salt.
